The Mozambique Chamber of Commerce (CCM), through its Social Responsibility and Sustainability portfolio, launched the Annual Social Responsibility Award on Tuesday, 3 November. The initiative aims to recognise and reward companies and organisations whose actions have a positive impact on communities.

On the occasion, CCM Vice-President for Internal Affairs Ilda Matabel said the award also seeks to raise the profile of initiatives which, despite producing positive results in communities, do not always receive the recognition they deserve.

“May this award serve as a platform for sharing experiences and bringing the business sector and communities closer together,” Matabel said, stressing that the CCM hopes to support companies that have contributed to improving people’s quality of life, particularly in the most vulnerable communities.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce and Investments (CCMI), Thani Cabir, said that social responsibility should be regarded as an investment in the country’s future, stressing that business growth should go hand in hand with the development of the communities in which companies operate.

For her part, the Vice-President of the Social Responsibility and Sustainability portfolio at CCM, Felícia Nhama, explained that the initiative is open to small, medium-sized and large companies, organisations and individuals. Nhama also noted that social responsibility should not be viewed exclusively from a financial perspective, but rather as a commitment and contribution to transforming communities.
