Motorcare has become the official importer and distributor of Peugeot and Citroën in Mozambique, following a partnership with Stellantis — the automotive group that owns both brands. The formal launch of the representation took place on Tuesday, 13 October, in Maputo, marking a new chapter in the company’s commercial offering as it celebrates 30 years of activity in the national market.

“Today, we take another important step in this journey. The integration of Peugeot and Citroën into Motorcare’s portfolio represents a strategic commitment to diversifying our offering and reinforcing our position in the national automotive market,” said Ivan Buzi, the company’s managing director, at the ceremony.

According to Buzi, the two brands offer distinct characteristics that allow the company to address different consumer needs. “Peugeot, with its identity defined by elegance, performance and innovation, and Citroën, recognised for comfort, creativity and accessibility, present distinct propositions,” he said, arguing that the integration will broaden the options available to Mozambican consumers.

The launch showcased four models: the Citroën C3, Citroën Aircross, Peugeot Landtrek and Peugeot 2008, targeting different segments of the automotive market.

After-Sales Support and Warranty Continuity

Motorcare intends to underpin the commercialisation of both brands with a dedicated after-sales structure, encompassing maintenance, specialised technical assistance, spare parts availability, and ongoing customer support throughout the vehicles’ service life.

“Our commitment therefore extends to developing an after-sales structure capable of ensuring specialised technical assistance, parts availability and adequate support throughout the vehicles’ useful life,” said Ivan Buzi.

On the question of continuity of service for vehicles previously sold by another entity, Buzi gave assurances that cars still covered by warranty would be attended to by Motorcare. “Any vehicle that is under warranty must be serviced by us,” he said, adding that the process provides for the transfer of previously assured support and access to the necessary parts.

Stellantis Cites Motorcare’s Local Market Experience

Ash Ramraj, a representative of Stellantis, said the decision to appoint Motorcare to represent Peugeot and Citroën in Mozambique was driven by the company’s experience, its knowledge of the national market, and its relationships with customers.

“With more than 30 years of experience, established customer relationships and a deep understanding of the Mozambican market, Motorcare brings the local expertise and commitment needed to lead these brands,” Ramraj said.

He explained that the partnership also forms part of Stellantis’s broader strategy to optimise its distribution network across Southern Africa. “This partnership is also part of our strategy to optimise the distribution network in Southern Africa, strengthen our local presence and improve customer access to our products and services,” he said.

Ramraj added that Stellantis’s strategy extends beyond vehicle sales to encompass the full ownership experience. “For us, success is not simply selling cars — it is growing, maintaining customer relationships and developing a complete ownership experience,” he said.

Automotive Market Conditions and Growth Outlook

When asked by journalists about the size of the market, Ivan Buzi acknowledged that the sector remains constrained by a number of limitations, even as it has recorded growth relative to the previous year.

“At the moment, we are trying to reach pre-Covid levels. The market is growing compared to last year, but we have not yet reached pre-Covid levels,” he said.

Buzi also pointed to difficulties in accessing foreign exchange and challenging financing and import conditions as factors weighing on operators in the sector. Despite these constraints, he reiterated confidence in the potential of the Mozambican market.

“We have received this responsibility with enthusiasm and with the determination to develop the Peugeot and Citroën brands in a sustainable manner, respecting international standards and the expectations of Mozambican consumers,” Buzi said.
