Motorcare has become the official importer and distributor of Peugeot and Citroën in Mozambique, following a partnership with Stellantis — the automotive group that owns both brands. The official launch of the representation took place on Tuesday, 13 October, in Maputo, marking a new chapter for the company as it celebrates 30 years of operation in the Mozambican market.

“Today, we are taking another important step in this journey. The integration of Peugeot and Citroën into Motorcare’s portfolio represents a strategic commitment to diversifying our offer and strengthening our position in the national automotive market,” said Ivan Buzi, the company’s managing director, at the ceremony.

According to Buzi, the two brands offer distinct characteristics that address different consumer needs. “Peugeot, with its identity defined by elegance, performance and innovation, and Citroën, recognised for comfort, creativity and affordability, present distinct propositions,” he said, arguing that the addition would broaden the options available to Mozambican consumers.

The launch showcased four models: the Citroën C3, the Citroën Aircross, the Peugeot Landtrek and the Peugeot 2008, targeting different segments of the automotive market.

After-sales service and warranty continuity

Motorcare intends to pair the commercialisation of both brands with a dedicated after-sales support structure, encompassing maintenance, specialised technical assistance, availability of spare parts, and customer care throughout the lifespan of the vehicles.

“Our commitment therefore also extends to developing an after-sales structure capable of ensuring specialised technical assistance, parts availability and adequate support throughout the life of the vehicles,” Buzi said.

On the question of continuity of service for vehicles previously sold under another representative, Buzi confirmed that cars still under warranty would be serviced by Motorcare. “Any vehicle that is under warranty must be served by us,” he stated, adding that the process provides for the transfer of previously guaranteed support and access to the necessary parts.

Stellantis backs Motorcare’s local expertise

Ash Ramraj, a representative of Stellantis, said the decision to appoint Motorcare as the representative for Peugeot and Citroën in Mozambique was driven by the company’s experience, its knowledge of the local market and its relationship with customers.

“With over 30 years of experience, established customer relationships and a deep understanding of the Mozambican market, Motorcare brings the local expertise and commitment needed to lead these brands,” Ramraj said.

He explained that the partnership also forms part of the group’s broader strategy to optimise its distribution network across Southern Africa. “This partnership is also part of our strategy to optimise the distribution network in Southern Africa, strengthen our local presence and improve customer access to our products and services,” he said.

Ramraj added that Stellantis’s strategy extends beyond vehicle sales to encompass the full relationship with consumers and post-sale support. “For us, success is not simply selling cars — it is growing, maintaining customer relationships and developing a complete ownership experience,” he said.

Automotive market and growth outlook

Responding to questions from journalists on the size of the market, Buzi acknowledged that the sector remains constrained by structural limitations, though it has recorded growth compared with the previous year.

“At this moment, we are trying to get back to pre-Covid levels. The market is growing compared to last year, but we have not yet reached pre-Covid levels,” he said.

Buzi also pointed to difficulties in accessing foreign currency and to challenging financing and import conditions as factors weighing on operators in the sector. Despite those constraints, he reiterated confidence in the potential of the Mozambican market.

“We have received this responsibility with enthusiasm and with the determination to develop the Peugeot and Citroën brands in a sustainable manner, respecting international standards and the expectations of Mozambican consumers,” Buzi said.
