Mozambique’s Secretary of State for Transport, Chinguane Mabote, has called for the entire logistics chain between the Port of Beira and Zambia’s Copperbelt to be synchronised. Speaking in Livingstone, Zambia, he urged participants at the Beira Corridor Forum to make concrete commitments capable of turning discussions into investment and tangible results.

According to Mabote, the expansion of the Mozambique–Zimbabwe Pipeline will only deliver the expected economic benefits if all components of the supply chain, from port reception, storage and pumping to distribution, develop in a coordinated manner. “From the ship docking in Beira to the mining industry in the Copperbelt, every stage must keep pace with the others,” he said.

The pipeline expansion will increase annual transportation capacity from three million to five million cubic metres, representing an increase of two million cubic metres per year, equivalent to approximately two billion additional litres. The project also includes the installation of new pumping stations in Nhamatanda and Messica, in Manica Province.

The government official stressed that the success of the Beira Corridor Forum should be measured by its ability to turn recommendations into concrete decisions, mobilise investment and deliver measurable results. “The success of this Forum will be measured by its ability to turn recommendations into decisions, investments and results,” he emphasised.

Mabote also stressed that, for the Government of Mozambique, the expansion of the pipeline, investments in the Port of Beira and the strengthening of rail and road connections form part of a common strategy to maximise the potential of the Beira Corridor.
