First Capital Bank on Thursday launched a financial literacy initiative in Maputo aimed at encouraging savings habits from childhood, as part of commemorations marking World Savings Day on 31 October. The event involved 40 pupils from the Escola Primária Completa 12 de Outubro in the district of Marracuene, and will be extended to the cities of Beira and Nampula on 7 November.
The activity was carried out in collaboration with the ProNwana Association and included a guided tour of the bank's premises, during which the pupils learned about the workings of a financial institution and interacted with staff from different departments.
According to a statement from the bank, the children also participated in an interactive session in which they had the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the importance of saving and responsible money management.
The initiative also included the distribution of financial education books and piggy banks, with the aim of consolidating the knowledge gained and encouraging the adoption of daily savings habits.
"We believe that financial education plays a fundamental role in building a more conscious and sustainable future. By giving children the opportunity to learn how a bank works and to understand the importance of saving from an early age, we are contributing to the development of skills that can make a difference throughout their lives. This initiative reflects our commitment to promoting financial literacy and generating a positive impact in the communities where we operate," said Naomi Rocha, Events, CSR and Sponsorships Manager at First Capital Bank.
Activities continue on 7 November in Beira, at Projecto Esperança, where 100 children are expected to participate, and in Nampula, at Mosteiro Madre de Deus – Lar da Nazaré, which is expected to host 85 participants.
In total, the initiative is set to reach 225 children across the three cities, seeking to promote financial literacy and raise awareness among young people of the importance of responsible resource management.
