Spotify is preparing to launch an artificial intelligence service in the first quarter of 2027 that will allow subscribers to create remixes and alternative versions of songs by artists who have consented to its use. According to the Financial Times, the company is considering charging between four and five US dollars per month on top of its existing Premium subscription, though the price and timeline have not yet been finalised.

The newspaper, citing sources close to the process, reports that an announcement could coincide with the Grammy Awards in February. The information relates to the company’s launch and commercialisation plans, and does not represent an officially confirmed date from Spotify.

The service is expected to allow users to modify existing tracks using AI. Described capabilities include transforming a song from one musical genre into another style, though details of the features available at launch remain unclear.

Artist participation will be voluntary. According to information reported, rights holders of original tracks are expected to receive revenue from the use of their works in versions created by users. Spotify is also developing mechanisms to integrate these user-generated productions into playlists on the platform.

The company is said to have already secured licensing agreements with Universal Music Group and other industry entities. According to the report, negotiations are ongoing with Sony Music and Warner Music, though Spotify may proceed with the service without the participation of those two labels. The catalogue available will depend on the agreements reached and the level of artist opt-in.

The plans come during a period of sustained growth for the platform. In the third quarter of 2026, Spotify reached 306 million Premium subscribers, up 9% year-on-year, and 788 million monthly active users, an increase of 11%.

Revenue grew 16% to approximately €4.97 billion. Net profit attributable to shareholders, however, fell roughly 42%, from €899 million to €518 million.
