New York’s stock exchange closed Tuesday’s session in mixed territory, with only the Dow Jones finishing in negative ground.

The Dow Jones slipped 0.38% to 51,786.72 points, while the S&P 500 added 0.37% to reach 7,568.96 points. The tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 0.83% to close at 25,372.01 points.

Wall Street traded in divergent directions on Tuesday, extending an indecisive tone from Monday’s session, which was shaped by the US midterm elections and by Apple, whose shares fell following the release of its quarterly results on Monday evening.

Apple posted above-expectation results for its first quarter, recording revenues of $114.48 billion between July and September — a 12% increase year-on-year and above the $113.39 billion forecast by analysts. Despite the strong figures, Apple shares declined 1.92% by the close of trading.
