The Provincial Delegation of the National Roads Administration (ANE) in Manica has announced the resumption of road traffic on the metal bridge over the Revuè River, along National Road 260 (N260), which connects the city of Chimoio to the municipality of Sussundenga. The reopening is, however, conditional, with all vehicles subject to a maximum gross weight limit of 30 tonnes.
The measure was announced following the partial completion of repair works on the structure. Despite the restoration of traffic flow, the bridge remains subject to restrictions, as interventions to ensure the safety of the structure and its users are still ongoing.
According to an ANE statement, all vehicles crossing the bridge, regardless of category, must comply with the 30-tonne gross weight limit. This restriction will remain in place throughout the conditional reopening period, while repair and maintenance works continue.
Heavy vehicles whose gross weight exceeds the established limit are barred from using the bridge and must take alternative routes. Through this measure, ANE aims to prevent vehicles carrying loads beyond the structure's currently authorised capacity from crossing.
The authority has also warned that non-compliance may result in fines and other penalties. Drivers of vehicles exceeding the permitted weight will additionally be required to offload excess cargo before being allowed to continue their journey.
Meanwhile, repair and maintenance works on the bridge have not yet been completed. Outstanding interventions include tightening bolts on the metal structure and restoring the pedestrian walkway.
ANE cautioned that the continuation of these works may necessitate the imposition of new traffic restrictions or temporary suspensions of circulation whenever required on safety grounds.
