Fidelidade Ímpar and the Universidade Pedagógica de Maputo (UP-Maputo) signed a seven-year memorandum of understanding on 28 October, covering the refurbishment of the university’s Central Library Auditorium and the development of insurance training and literacy initiatives targeting the academic community.

According to a statement from the insurer, the initiative includes access for the university community to Fidelidade Ímpar’s protection solutions and envisages the creation of a dedicated space at the Faculty of Economics and Management for lectures and other activities aimed at promoting insurance literacy. The company has also committed to supporting training initiatives and other activities of mutual interest, as well as offering protection solution packages with preferential conditions for UP-Maputo students, staff, and their immediate family members.

Under the partnership, Fidelidade Ímpar has further committed to supporting training initiatives and other activities of common interest, while making available protection packages at special rates for university students, employees, and their direct dependants.

Manuel Gamito, Chair of the Board of Directors of Fidelidade Ímpar, said the partnership with UP-Maputo reflects the insurer’s commitment to education and the development of Mozambican communities. “Over the next seven years, we intend to contribute to the refurbishment of the Central Library Auditorium, support training initiatives, promote insurance literacy, and facilitate the university community’s access to protection solutions,” Gamito said.

He described the memorandum as a strategic partnership that contributes to enhancing university assets, strengthens training capacity in the insurance sector, and broadens access to advantageous conditions for the uptake of insurance products.

“In Mozambique, only 17% of the adult population has some form of insurance coverage, according to data released at the opening of the OESAI International Conference in August. Literacy initiatives such as those envisaged in this memorandum help to reverse this situation and extend access to protection to more families and communities,” the statement reads.

The signing of the agreement reaffirms Fidelidade Ímpar’s commitment to strengthening institutional cooperation in the areas of education, training, insurance literacy, and institutional development, with a view to contributing to Mozambique’s sustainable development.
