Mozambican President Daniel Chapo on Tuesday, 27 October, called for the country’s energy resources to be harnessed to drive economic and social development, as Mozambique participated in the 8th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) held in Moscow, Russia.

According to the Mozambique News Agency, in a message addressed to Mozambicans, the head of state underscored the importance of the country’s presence at international forums and the strengthening of cooperation ties with the Russian Federation and other African nations.

“On the margins of this agenda, we participated today in the 8th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, where we argued that energy resources must generate development for our peoples and strengthen cooperation between nations,” Chapo stated.

The president further noted that Mozambique’s participation at the summit reflects the country’s commitment to dialogue and the deepening of diplomatic relations with Moscow and African states.

“This presence reflects the importance we attach to dialogue, cooperation, and the strengthening of relations between Mozambique, the Russian Federation, and African countries,” he declared.

Chapo’s visit to the Russian capital also includes attendance at the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit, at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The gathering serves as a platform for political dialogue and the discussion of matters of mutual interest, including economic and trade cooperation.

Mozambique’s participation in both summits forms part of broader efforts to deepen relations with Russia and African nations, anchored in historical ties of friendship and cooperation and the pursuit of opportunities to translate the country’s energy potential into tangible benefits for its population.
