Promoting sustainable socio-economic development requires improvements to participatory planning and budgeting mechanisms, as well as strengthening public administration reform, in order to ensure greater efficiency in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of public policies aimed at serving the public interest.

It is in this context that Niassa is holding its second Development Observatory for the current year, a consultative and participatory forum bringing together the Government and national and foreign partners to discuss strategies for promoting sustainable socio-economic development, with a focus on planning and budgeting, as well as monitoring and evaluating government instruments.

At the opening of the event, the provincial governor, Judite Massengele, called on the private sector to increase investment in agriculture, agro-industry, marketing and other economic activities capable of creating jobs, stimulating the local economy and adding value to the province’s production.

“We reiterate our commitment to participatory, transparent and results-oriented governance, valuing the contributions of this Observatory and ensuring that they are duly followed up, within the scope of institutional responsibilities and available resources,” Massengele said.

The provincial government expects the strategies and recommendations resulting from the meeting to help increase production and productivity, improve household incomes and effectively raise the population’s quality of life.
