The State Secretariat for Arts and Culture and the National Agency for Tourism Development and Investment (ANDITUR) are preparing joint initiatives to integrate culture into the promotion of Mozambique as a tourism and investment destination, the Lusa news agency reported on Wednesday, 21 October.

The alignment was discussed at a meeting between the State Secretary for Arts and Culture, Matilde Muocha, and the Chair of ANDITUR's Board of Directors, Hélder Jauana, held at the premises of the Ministry of Education and Culture in Maputo.

Among the priorities was the preparation of a panel on Tourism and Cultural and Creative Industries, scheduled for the Mozambique Tourism Summit, which will take place on 5 and 6 November in Vilankulo, Inhambane province.

Under the theme 'Culture as an Economic Asset of Tourism', the panel is expected to bring together operators and professionals from both sectors to discuss the contribution of cultural activities to enhancing the national tourism offer. The debate aims to identify ways of linking the country's cultural diversity to tourism development opportunities.

During the meeting, Matilde Muocha advocated for closer coordination between the two areas, highlighting their potential to attract both domestic and international visitors.

The two institutions also expressed interest in developing joint projects at home and abroad, and in coordinating participation in national and international events. The intention is to strengthen the promotion of Mozambique by aligning the showcasing of its cultural expressions with the presentation of tourism and investment opportunities.

The second edition of the Mozambique Tourism Summit will carry the theme 'Mozambique: Where Africa Reinvents Itself'. The event aims to bring together representatives from the public sector, tourism operators, investors, and international partners to discuss the outlook for sector development and present business opportunities.

According to the organisers, representatives from around 30 countries are expected to participate. The preparation of the panel on cultural and creative industries forms part of broader efforts to give greater prominence to culture in Mozambique's tourism promotion.
