CoWork Lab inaugurated a new business centre in Sommerschield, Maputo, on Tuesday, 13 October, bringing its total footprint in the Mozambican capital to seven locations. The opening also marks the company's 14th anniversary of operations in the country and expands its range of workspace solutions for entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and professionals, according to a statement sent to Diário Económico.

Founded in Mozambique in 2012, CoWork Lab offers private offices, coworking desks, meeting and conference rooms, and virtual office services. In addition to the seven business centres in Maputo, the company operates one space in Portugal and provides accommodation for professionals in the Mozambican capital through CoWork Lab Suites.

Located at Rua 1307, No. 150 in Sommerschield, the new centre features private offices, meeting rooms, work and social areas, and a conference room with capacity for more than 100 people. Services include reception, internet, cleaning, 24-hour security, water, electricity, and a copy centre, alongside virtual office solutions.

The inauguration was attended by Mahomed Mussá, chairman of the management board of Tmcel, and Pedro Ferreira, managing director of CoWork Lab, along with approximately 180 guests comprising business executives, clients, partners, and institutional representatives.

"Fourteen years ago we opened a small space with a simple idea: to give those who entrepreneurship a place to start. Today, seeing around 180 people gathered in this new centre shows how much that idea has grown alongside our clients and partners," said Pedro Ferreira, reflecting on the company's journey since its founding.

Beyond business services, the centre aims to host community initiatives, offering dates and spaces for entrepreneurs and artists to present their work. This cultural dimension was highlighted at the inauguration through the photographic exhibition "Kintsugi: Where the Cracks Become Light", by Patrícia Costa.

Pedro Ferreira described the new centre as "a space to work, create, and collaborate. We want it to be a launch pad for new businesses and a showcase for Mozambique's talent. Here, every connection counts," underlining the company's ambition to foster new ventures and give visibility to local talent.

The new business centre is housed in a building that served as a training institute between 1991 and 2018. In recognition of the site's history, CoWork Lab preserved the original inauguration plaque, retaining a tangible link to the building's past.
