Following the completion and formal registration of the merger, whose regulatory approval was recently announced, Hollard Moçambique will operate as a single company under one brand, bringing together the expertise and resources of the three insurance businesses of Hollard Seguros, Hollard Vida and Global Alliance.
Hollard Moçambique intends to widen access to insurance for individuals, small businesses and sectors with limited financial protection, capitalising on the combined capabilities of Hollard Seguros, Hollard Vida and Global Alliance following their merger. The insurer aims to extend its market reach and develop more inclusive solutions tailored to the needs of the national market.
“Our ambition is to consolidate our established presence in the country and play an even greater role in extending insurance protection to more Mozambicans. We are now better positioned to build on our combined experience and broaden our reach,” says Henri Mittermayer, Chief Executive Officer of Hollard Moçambique.
With the consolidated insurance license, Hollard will be able to offer to its clients and distribution partners under one brand all classes of non-life insurance and life insurance, as well as services of administration of pension funds. Besides conventional insurance, Hollard Moçambique will also continue to explore solutions aimed at promoting financial inclusion such as agricultural insurance, education insurance plans, hospital cash insurance, the digital motor third party insurance (Paga Leve) and other microinsurance products. These solutions can help facilitate access to finance for activities in sectors that have traditionally been underserved.
“Insurance has an important role to play in supporting economic development. When farmers, entrepreneurs and businesses have access to appropriate protection, they are better equipped to manage risks, secure financing, invest in their operations and pursue growth opportunities,” Mittermayer stresses.
The company sees considerable scope to increase insurance penetration in Mozambique and intends to develop solutions that respond to local needs. Its strategy also includes improving the customer experience and investing in technology and digital innovation to enhance operational efficiency, simplify customer interactions and strengthen claims-handling processes.
“We see significant potential to expand the role of the insurance sector in Mozambique. Our focus is on developing practical solutions that address local needs and enable more people and businesses to participate in the economy with confidence,” the executive adds.
As part of the Hollard Group, the Mozambican operation will continue to combine its knowledge of the local market with access to an international network of insurance and reinsurance partners, supported also by Japanese insurer Tokio Marine.
Pravin Kalpagé (PK), Executive Director of Hollard International, describes this new phase as part of the group’s long-term commitment to Mozambique. “Our ambition is to continue growing alongside Mozambique, helping more people and businesses gain access to insurance, supporting economic activity and contributing to a better future for the communities we serve,” he says.
PK adds that strengthening the Mozambican operation is also intended to create opportunities for companies with a pan-African presence to benefit from the insurer’s range of products and services.
With a workforce of 160 employees, Hollard Moçambique plans to relocate its offices to downtown Maputo, at Baixa. The company says the move reflects its commitment to contributing to the development of the communities in which it operates.
“The decision to move to Baixa reflects our commitment to shared value and our belief that businesses can help revitalise communities through the way they establish themselves and expand their operations,” Mittermayer says.
The acquisition, integration and merger process was led by Axis Advisory, headed by Marcelo Tertuliano, in collaboration with the teams of the insurance companies involved. Mittermayer acknowledged the contribution of all those involved in bringing the process to completion and laying the foundations for this new phase in the company’s operations.
