Traffic along Avenida de Moçambique in Maputo city, on the stretch between the Junta roundabout and Bairro do Jardim, was restricted since the early hours of Tuesday following a water pipe burst.
According to Borges da Silva, chairman of the board of Maputo’s Municipal Sanitation and Drainage Company, the situation was caused by roadworks to lay electrical cables, carried out by Painhas de Moçambique.
As a result, technicians from Águas e Saneamento de Maputo were at the site carrying out repairs to restore the water pipe and traffic along this stretch, which affected almost the entire length of the road in both directions.
The congestion yesterday was affecting passenger transport services, whose operators were opting for alternative routes, leaving several commuters without transport.
