The figures were released by the Government as part of the Economic and Social Plan and State Budget (PESOE) report for the first nine months of 2026. During the same period, the Government reports that 167 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises benefited from financing and 906,816 producers received agricultural extension services, strengthening support for local economic development and productive activity.

A total of 158 of the 230 indicators planned for the economic year were assessed, of which 85, equivalent to 53.8%, met or exceeded their implementation targets; 43 indicators (27.2%) recorded achievement levels between 50% and 99%; and 30 indicators (19%) recorded implementation below 50%.

Gross International Reserves reached US$3.4 billion at the end of September, ensuring coverage of approximately 4.8 months of imports of goods and services, above the target of 4.4 months set in the PESOE. In the areas of governance and public service delivery, 1,340,236 identity cards were issued and 325,723 passports produced.

Legal assistance and representation services were also provided to 224,774 citizens, while 6,671 inmates participated in vocational training programmes. As part of administrative modernisation, a further five institutions were integrated into the National Electronic Document Management System.

In education and health, results included the vaccination of 971,574 children, exceeding the target of 845,512, representing implementation of approximately 114.9%. A total of 15,777,510 school textbooks were also distributed, surpassing the target of 15,062,700 copies by around 4.7%, benefiting approximately 7,489,545 pupils.

In terms of access to electricity, the Government reports that 301,430 new household connections were made through the National Electricity Grid, bringing the total number of domestic consumers connected to the grid to 4,047,231.

In the infrastructure sector, 30 km of expansion of the water supply network were completed in Maputo Province, representing 55% of the target of 55 km. A further 20 km of national roads were rehabilitated along the Matabo-Songo and Ressano Garcia-Moamba sections, equivalent to 57% of the 35 km target.

In the environmental sector, 18,260.65 hectares were reforested with native and exotic species. This represents 35.1% of the annual target of 52,000 hectares, while still amounting to growth of more than 100% compared with the 5,506 hectares reforested during the same period in 2025.

Despite the progress recorded, the Government led by Daniel Chapo acknowledges that challenges remain in controlling inflation, which stood at 5.12%, above the annual target of 3.7%, as well as in recovering industrial production and expanding the country’s export capacity.
