A signing ceremony for a grant agreement to construct classrooms at 4 de Outubro Complete Primary School in Matola, Maputo Province, was held at the Embassy of Japan in Maputo on Thursday, 29 October 2026.
The ceremony was attended by His Excellency HAMADA Keiji, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mozambique, and Mr Amandio Fondo, Director of the Community Association for Human Development (ASSCODECHA), among other guests.
The project will be implemented by ASSCODECHA and is valued at US$100,449 (one hundred thousand four hundred and forty-nine US dollars). It aims to construct two blocks, fully equipped with desks for pupils and fitted with access ramps for people with disabilities, comprising a total of seven classrooms, each with a capacity of 50 pupils. It also provides for the expansion and rehabilitation of existing classrooms.
In addition, the project includes the construction of two toilet blocks, each comprising four toilets for boys and two for girls.
The implementation of these interventions will contribute to improving learning conditions at the school, promoting a more inclusive, accessible and safe school environment, as well as expanding access to education and supporting the continuity of children’s education in the region.
