Mozambique’s mineral wealth presents an opportunity to build stronger domestic industries, but capturing more of that value requires more than extraction. It requires industrial infrastructure, investment in local production and stronger links between major projects and Mozambican businesses.
This was the central message by Onório Manuel, CEO of MozParks, during CAVAME-d 2026 in Nacala, where he participated in a panel discussion on investment incentives and the industrialisation of Mozambique’s mineral resources.
“In the 21st century, it makes no sense for us to continue importing industrial parts that we can produce locally,” Manuel stated.
His message highlighted the need to move beyond supplying basic goods and services to the extractive sector and develop Mozambique’s own manufacturing and processing capacity. This requires investment in infrastructure, technology and skills, enabling Mozambican companies to produce more of what major industrial projects currently source from abroad.
This approach is reflected in MozParks’ development plan to establish 20 industrial parks across Mozambique, including in regions with significant mining and energy investments. Topuito Industrial Park in Nampula Province, located near Kenmare’s Moma mining operations, is one example of how industrial parks can support the establishment of local suppliers, manufacturers and service providers around major projects. Similar initiatives in Cabo Delgado aim to encourage industrial activity linked to the province’s natural resources and large-scale investments.
Through this expansion, MozParks aims to create the infrastructure and conditions for more products to be manufactured locally, more Mozambican businesses to participate in industrial supply chains and a greater share of the value generated by natural resources to remain in the national economy.
