The Mozambique Grain Institute (ICM) yesterday made known that it has lifted the suspension of Pembe Mozambique’s rice and wheat import operations after the company regularised the irregularities identified in its import process.

The decision was announced in an ICM press release on Thursday, 15 October, about two days after the institute suspended the company’s import operations alongside those of Companhia Industrial da Matola (CIM) and África Indústrias, over alleged non-compliance with legal procedures.

“As a result of this decision, Pembe Mozambique, Ltd. is once again authorised to import rice and wheat, subject to submitting the relevant import applications to the ICM, IP and complying with the legally established procedures,” reads the press release..

Meanwhile, the suspension of import operations remains in force for CIM and África Indústrias “until the circumstances that gave rise to the measures have been regularised”.

“The ICM reaffirms its commitment to legality, procedural transparency and the organisation of the domestic market, reiterating that rice and wheat imports must comply with the import mechanism established under the applicable regulatory framework, namely Ministerial Diploma No. 132/2025 of 31 December and Ministerial Diploma No. 31/2026 of 24 April,” the press release concludes.
