Meta has introduced a new feature on Instagram that allows users to reshare photos and videos posted by other accounts, with the reshared content appearing in the feeds and Reels of their own followers.
The option, called Repost, functions as an additional form of engagement on the platform, complementing existing interactions such as likes, comments, and direct message shares.
Represented by a double-arrow icon displayed beneath posts, the feature enables users to distribute content from other creators directly to their own audiences. Reposted content is also saved in a dedicated tab on the user’s profile.
This means that anyone who comes across a photo or video they want to share can broadcast it to their entire audience, without having to send it individually to friends via private messages. According to Meta, the tool can also help expand the reach of posts and increase the visibility of their original creators.
According to the portal Notícias ao Minuto, the ability to repost content depends on the permissions set by the original author. Users who do not want others to reshare their content on their own pages can disable the feature by following the steps below.
How to disable Reposts on Instagram:
Open the Instagram app;
Go to your profile by tapping the last icon in the menu, which displays your photo;
In the top right corner, tap the icon with three horizontal lines;
Enter the Sharing and Reuse section;
Disable the Reposts on posts and Reels option to prevent others from resharing your content.
The setting gives creators greater control over how their posts and videos circulate across the platform.
