Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new GT SUV, a fully electric model capable of producing 1,169 hp and 2,000 Nm of torque in its GT63 variant, with acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and rapid charging capability of up to 710 kW. The SUV is the first large-format model developed entirely by the AMG performance division and the second vehicle to use the high-performance AMG.EA electric platform, following the AMG GT four-door coupé.
The range will comprise three variants: the GT53, GT55, and GT63. The entry-level GT53 produces 544 hp and employs two electric motors, one on each axle. The GT55, rated at 816 hp, and the GT63 both use three electric motors — one at the front and two at the rear — enabling more precise power distribution and improved traction management.
All three models feature the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system. In the GT55 and GT63 variants, individual power distribution across the rear wheels allows the vehicle’s dynamic behaviour to be optimised under varying driving conditions.
The 800-volt electrical architecture supports rapid DC charging. The GT53 accepts a maximum charging rate of 600 kW, while the GT55 and GT63 reach 710 kW. According to Mercedes-AMG, the GT53 can recover approximately 380 km of range in ten minutes, while the two higher-specification variants can add around 450 km in the same period, both measured on the WLTP cycle. The GT63 has an estimated range of between 620 and 700 kilometres depending on configuration. Battery capacity stands at 106 kWh in the GT53 and 128 kWh in the GT55 and GT63.
On the dynamics front, the SUV incorporates the AMG Active Ride Control+ suspension system, standard on the GT63 and optional on the GT55. The technology combines hydraulic dampers and adjustable air springs to reduce body movement through corners, under braking, and during acceleration, eliminating the need for conventional anti-roll bars.
The equipment also includes a range of driving modes — Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race, Slippery, Eco, and Individual. On the higher-specification variants, the AMG Dynamic Plus package allows adjustment of engine response, steering, and traction settings. Mercedes-AMG has also introduced a sound simulation function that reproduces internal combustion engine sounds, including a V8 note on the GT55 and GT63. The system responds to throttle inputs and driving style, combining simulated sounds with gear changes triggered via steering wheel paddles.
Externally, the model is distinguished by its wide bodywork, pronounced wheel arches, frameless side windows, and six circular rear lights. Active aerodynamics include moveable fins in the front bumper and an adjustable rear spoiler on the GT55 and GT63.
The cabin features a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch central display, with the option of adding a third 14-inch screen for the front passenger. The SUV also offers a three-seat rear bench, a panoramic roof with adjustable transparency, and 606 litres of boot space, complemented by an additional 79 litres in a front storage compartment.
According to automotive publication Auto Drive, order books for the GT53 are expected to open in the week following the model’s reveal, while the GT55 and GT63 variants are anticipated to become available to order the following spring. The company has not disclosed pricing.
