Vodacom Lesotho has launched a satellite connectivity solution in Maseru, built on Starlink’s low-earth orbit technology, aimed at improving internet access for businesses and public institutions — particularly in remote areas or regions with limited telecommunications infrastructure.
Branded the Enterprise Satellite Connectivity Solution, the service offers three configurations: a primary satellite internet connection, a backup link, and a product called Unbreakable Internet, which combines terrestrial and satellite networks to maintain connectivity in the event of a failure on either link.
According to the Tech Africa News portal, the offering targets organisations across financial services, agriculture, healthcare, logistics, education, tourism, and public administration.
Vodacom Lesotho Chief Executive Mohale Ralebitso said the country’s geographical characteristics demand connectivity solutions capable of reaching businesses and institutions regardless of their location.
Navindran Naidoo, head of non-terrestrial networks at Vodacom Group, said the partnership with Starlink combines satellite technology with the operator’s installation capacity, technical support, and service management, “enabling organisations to maintain connectivity during potential outages”.
Lesotho’s Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Nthati Moorosi, said the initiative supports the country’s development objectives by advancing a more connected, resilient, productive, and inclusive digital society.
With this launch, Vodacom Lesotho broadens its enterprise services portfolio, providing an internet access alternative for organisations operating in areas with insufficient or unreliable terrestrial coverage.
