Volkswagen unveiled the ID. Tiguan on 9 October, a new fully electric SUV set to replace the ID.4 and ID.5 models in the German manufacturer's lineup. Offered in three powertrain configurations, with output of up to 299 horsepower and an announced range of 600 kilometres, the vehicle is scheduled to reach the market in early 2027.
Built on the MEB+ platform, the ID. Tiguan will be available in three variants: two rear-wheel-drive versions producing 190 and 286 horsepower (hp) respectively, and an all-wheel-drive 4Motion version delivering 299hp.
The entry-level version is equipped with a 58 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, offering a range of up to 450 kilometres on a single charge. The 286hp variant uses a 77kWh battery and delivers an announced range of up to 600 kilometres, while the all-wheel-drive version, fitted with the same battery, is rated at up to 560 kilometres.
According to data released by Volkswagen, charging from 10% to 80% battery capacity takes approximately 26 minutes on the 58kWh version and 29 minutes on the 77kWh variants.
The SUV adopts Volkswagen's Pure Positive design language, characterised by robust lines, pronounced wheel arches, and a continuous light signature running across both the front and rear fascias.
Measuring 4.62 metres in length, 1.86 metres in width, and 1.62 metres in height, the ID. Tiguan combines digital equipment with physical controls.
The interior features a 10.2-inch instrument cluster and a 15-inch central touchscreen for the infotainment system. The model can also be optionally equipped with a 12-inch screen for the front passenger, a feature Volkswagen presents as a debut for its European lineup.
Boot capacity stands at 534 litres, supplemented by 32 litres of storage in a front compartment.
Standard equipment includes a one-pedal driving mode, automatic emergency braking, and driver and parking assistance systems with pedestrian and cyclist detection. Optional features include Connected Travel Assist and Park Assist Plus.
The new SUV will be offered across four trim levels: Trend, Life, Style, and R-Line.
With the ID. Tiguan, Volkswagen revives a nameplate previously used on its internal combustion vehicle range, now applied exclusively to an electric model.
