Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo on Thursday handed over the Nhamitsatsi resettlement complex to the local community in the district of Moatize, Tete province, in a ceremony that marked the first day of his provincial visit and preceded the opening of the Tete International Investment Conference (CIIT 2026).

According to the Mozambique Information Agency (AIM), the complex was built as part of a resettlement process promoted by Vulcan, an Indian mining company that operates coal extraction in the area. It comprises housing units and social infrastructure designed to ensure better living conditions for families affected by the resettlement.

Among the facilities handed over by the head of state are a school equipped with a computer room and library, a health post, a police station, a market, and a multi-sports field. During the same ceremony, Chapo also delivered ambulances and other vehicles intended to strengthen service delivery to the community.

The development of Nhamitsatsi is part of the broader process of resettling communities displaced by mining activity in Moatize, where coal extraction carries significant weight in the local economy and in attracting investment.

The complex is designed to consolidate, within a new residential area, the social services and public facilities required for the community’s functioning, with a view to creating conditions for its settlement and development. “Here, development comes to life,” reads a panel placed at the entrance to the resettlement complex.

Beyond Moatize, President Chapo also worked in Tete city, where he presided over the opening of the Tete International Investment Conference, held under the theme “Tete on the Investment Horizon: Opportunities for a New Era of Development”.

The conference brings together a range of stakeholders with the aim of presenting the province’s economic potential, promoting investment opportunities, and discussing mechanisms for participation in Tete’s development. The province holds significant mineral resources, with coal being the most prominent, alongside potential in agriculture, energy, tourism, infrastructure, and logistics.

At the conference venue, Daniel Chapo, accompanied by First Lady Gueta Chapo, visited exhibitor stands and engaged with projects and initiatives presented by participating companies and institutions.
