Maputo Mayor Rasaque Manhique is inviting international investors to explore opportunities in the Mozambican capital, particularly in urban infrastructure, housing, digitalisation, transport, renewable energy, tourism and economic activities.
Manhique was speaking on Saturday (17 October) in Fujian province, China, about Maputo’s economic potential and investment opportunities, with a particular focus on the municipal districts of KaTembe and KaNyaka (Inhaca Island).
The mayor of Maputo was one of the speakers at the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Local Government Cooperation and International Friendship Cities Dialogue, held from 16 to 19 October 2026 in Fuzhou, Fujian province, China.
Manhique highlighted KaTembe’s potential for the development of new residential, commercial and tourism projects, benefiting from its strategic location and its connection to the city centre via the Maputo–KaTembe Bridge.
Regarding Inhaca Island, Rasaque Manhique identified sustainable tourism as one of the main areas for investment, with opportunities to develop tourism facilities and eco-resorts and to enhance the value of natural and marine resources.
Manhique said Maputo was open to domestic and foreign investment, adding that the municipal authorities were willing to facilitate administrative procedures, reduce bureaucratic barriers and promote public-private partnerships.
Rasaque Manhique also highlighted Maputo’s geostrategic position as a gateway to Southern African markets through the Port of Maputo and the road and rail corridors linking Mozambique to countries in the region.
Participation in the international meeting provides an opportunity to promote the Mozambican capital’s economic potential, establish new cooperation partnerships and attract investment to support urban development, job creation and improvements in residents’ living conditions.
