The government and private sector convened in Nacala, Nampula province, from Monday, 19 October, to discuss investment opportunities in the transformation of mineral and energy resources and to strengthen the participation of domestic companies in the supply chains of large-scale projects.

The discussions are taking place under the framework of the Conference on Value Addition to Available Mineral and Energy Resources (CAVAME-d), which brings together government officials, business leaders, and investors to promote industrialisation and the economic utilisation of the country's natural resources.

At the opening session, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Estêvão Pale, underlined the importance of closing the gap between the business community and public institutions, and encouraged investors to explore the opportunities available within the extractive industry.

The Governor of Nampula, Eduardo Mariamo Abdula, in turn called for greater in-country transformation of resources as a means of stimulating industrial establishment and job creation in the province.

The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) is attending the forum with a delegation led by its president, Álvaro Massingue, which includes representatives from various economic sectors.

According to Massingue, the conference represents an opportunity to identify new business prospects, particularly at a time when Mozambican companies are seeking to expand their participation in the value chains of major investment projects.

He emphasised the importance of local content, advocating for improved conditions that would enable domestic companies to supply goods and services to the mining and energy industry.

The conference agenda includes panel discussions on mining, air transport, investment incentives, and the industrialisation of mineral resources. One panel features CTA Vice-President Onório Manuel and focuses on the measures needed to stimulate local processing.

The initiative also aims to promote investment in infrastructure and support services for the extractive industry, with the objective of ensuring that a greater share of the economic value derived from natural resources is created within Mozambique.

The conference ambassador, Esperança Macovela, highlighted the event's significance in showcasing Nampula's economic potential and connecting investors with existing business opportunities in the province.

Organised by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, CAVAME-d runs until 24 October, with the stated goal of translating the country's mineral and energy potential into concrete investment and industrial development projects.
