Angola ranks 17th among African countries by nominal gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, with an estimated value of $3,876 in 2026. According to October projections by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as compiled by Worldometer, Angola surpasses Zimbabwe, Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, but remains well behind the continent's leading economies.
The ranking is topped by Seychelles, at $19,157 per capita, followed by Mauritius at $13,671 and Gabon at $11,034.
Botswana occupies fourth place at $8,563, followed by Equatorial Guinea at $8,484. South Africa, Libya and Algeria appear in the subsequent positions, with values ranging between $6,910 and $7,659.
Among the remaining economies, Cabo Verde stands out in ninth place at $6,556, Namibia in tenth at $5,742, and Morocco in 11th at $5,141.
Angola's GDP per capita exceeds that of Zimbabwe, estimated at $3,718, Ghana at $3,604, and Côte d'Ivoire at $3,264.
The indicator is calculated by dividing a country's total economic output by its population. While it allows for comparisons of average output per person, it does not represent the income actually received by citizens nor does it reveal how wealth is distributed.
In Angola's case, the weight of the oil sector continues to shape economic performance, while diversification of output, job creation and productivity gains remain persistent challenges in improving living conditions for the broader population.
At the opposite end of the African ranking sits Burundi, with a nominal GDP per capita estimated at $510, followed by Sudan at $597 and South Sudan at $642.
The figures correspond to projections for 2026 and may be revised as new economic data becomes available.
