OpenAI has launched College Planner, a tool integrated into ChatGPT designed to help students choose universities, organise applications, and access information on admission requirements, deadlines, and financial aid. Initially aimed at secondary school students in the United States, the feature is expected to be extended to other countries.

College Planner was developed to simplify the higher education application process, enabling students to gather information on different institutions, identify required procedures, and track the steps needed to prepare their applications.

According to OpenAI, the tool is intended to complement the support provided by school counsellors, academic advisers, and families, facilitating access to information regardless of a student’s economic circumstances.

In addition to supporting university selection, the resource allows users to organise tasks, monitor application progress, and consult the procedures required to apply for financial aid.

At this stage, College Planner is targeted at students in grades 10 through 12 in the US secondary school system. The company plans to expand its availability to other markets but has not yet announced which countries will be included or provided an expansion timeline.

ChatGPT Gains New Learning Tools

OpenAI also unveiled additional educational features designed to facilitate studying and the organisation of school materials.

Among the new additions are interactive multiple-choice quizzes, which allow users to test their knowledge across different subjects.

Another new feature is continuous photo capture, which makes it easier to record notes, notebooks, and textbook pages without needing to initiate a new capture for each image.

This feature is initially available on iOS devices, with an expansion to Android planned at a later stage.

With these updates, OpenAI is seeking to broaden ChatGPT’s use in education, combining study support tools with features for planning academic pathways.
